Our Mission

Our mission is to guarantee the rights of Indigenous communities, support their autonomy, and strengthen projects that generate income, education, health, and quality of life in a fair and sustainable way. We act with deep respect for the cycles of nature, traditional practices, and the worldview of the forest peoples.

In addition, we promote environmental regeneration and the recognition of Ayahuasca as sacred medicine, cultivating what the earth offers us in a responsible and conscious way. We fight for a future where development and nature walk hand in hand, where the forest remains standing, and Indigenous voices are heard, respected, and celebrated.

Our History

We, the Shanenawa people, originally came from the Gregório River region. At a delicate moment in our history, we faced conflicts with the Yawanawa people, which led us to migrate to the Envira River region. At that time, we assumed the Katukina identity as a form of camouflage, avoiding further confrontations.

Over the years, we have reaffirmed our true identity: we are Shanenawa. Today we live in a new time, of cultural recovery, living memories and preservation of the forest.

Our chief, Naynawá, left the vicinity of the center of Feijó, traveled seven kilometers along the BR-364 towards Cruzeiro do Sul and entered a forest area that, according to the environmental agent, was only secondary forest. There, together with his family, he began a new challenge: creating a new village.

With machetes and simple instruments, we opened up the forest and, in 2014, founded the village of Shane Kaya — a place blessed with streams, hills and fertile land, where today we continue to strengthen our culture and way of life.

Now the Shane Kaya village also develops a cultural circle of art exhibitions (kene) in its various forms such as: clothing, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and anklets.
